AR Public Art Visualization Tool, 2023
When presenting and pitching public art concepts to public art committees, it is essential to provide well-designed visualizations that communicate key visual and spatial ideas effectively. Augmented reality (designed for smartphone deployment) can provide a unique opportunity that allows members of art committees to quickly see designs and concepts within a physical 3D environment. They can manipulate the models, scale the models, view close-up details, and "walk around" the model for a 360-degree experience.
The following example is a pitch for a public art sculpture in downtown Raleigh, NC. The sculpture was inspired by the poem To the Fig Tree on 9th and Christian by Ross Gay. Augmented reality was used as a way to effectively pitch the concept to the client.
The production pipeline: Adobe Photoshop (ideation/mockups), Autodesk Maya (3D models, textures), 8th Wall (AR development, 3D model integration for smartphone).
